Don’t you hate it when you’re on holidays and on the day before you are about to leave you find a really great restaurant and you know you won’t be able to go back to it again…at least until you come back to that holiday destination, if in fact you do come back at all.

Well that’s what happened to us when we found the Seabreeze Dining restaurant in Kiama. We only had one day left in Kiama and realised that we hadn’t tried out this little gem as yet… surprising really as  it was after all only around the corner from the Sebel Harbourside Hotel which is where we were staying. We had actually noticed it on our first day in Kiama but on that day it was packed solid for Mothers Day… something that we took to be a good sign…but for some reason we never got back to it until the day before we left. Still there’s no point crying over spilt milk – we just had to make the most of it in the time we had left and in the end we managed to squeeze in a second visit just after we checked out of our hotel before the long drive home to Canberra.

The Seabreeze Dining restaurant is located on Shoalhaven St in Kiama and has absolutely magnificent ocean views. Make sure you get a table up the front and during lunch on a warm day when the proprietor opens up the folding windows to create a completely unobstructed view….it’s very impressive! You can’t help but sit silently taking in the view while waiting for your meal to arrive.

The restaurant has a simple elegance that works well in this beautiful beachside town.

Of course ocean views don’t make a restaurant – what really counts is the food and this eating establishment really delivers with its a la carte menu and beautifully presented meals that are both tasty and good value for money.  Breakfast ranges in price from $4 to $16, lunch from $14 to $23 and dinner from $23 to $32. And we mustn’t forget the desserts from $9 to $12.

Salmon Crepe & Salad

Salmon Crepe & Salad

I had the ‘Smoked Salmon Crepe’ which was delicious and Wanda had the ‘Open Chicken Sandwich” which although it was extremely tasty, and accompanied with a lovely salad and beer battered chips, we both agreed  that the chicken was ever so slightly overcooked.

For dessert Wanda chose the Baked Crumble with apple, cinnamon and pistachios which she found to be delicious especially when combined with the side of cream.  I had the Warm Chocolate MudCake with Hot Chocolate Sauce. I can tell you now that this mudcake would have to be one of the best I have ever had. Just to show you how good it is, Wanda who doesn’t really like mudcake tried it and ended up having it the next day for dessert. It was so soft and moist and with the addition of the rich chocolate sauce we were in heaven.

The Smoked Salmon Crepes were definitely a hit with us and so we both indulged in this tasty dish on the second visit. The generous quantity of salmon in the light crepe and the subtle taste of the capers combined with the haloumi cheese is heavenly. This was accompanied with a huge salad with a mix of cherry tomatoes and sun dried tomatoes.

Apart from the delicious food, there is one more thing I have to say about this restaurant is that the staff really know how to make you feel welcome. From the proprietor Jimmy through to ‘Mr Smooth’ the waiter (who I reckon could charm the pants off of anyone), we felt totally at home and relaxed and well looked after.

Seabreeze Dining is owned and operated by Jimmy Spasevski and his wife Sonja. And as Jimmy says “If you love food, it shows in the meals you serve”, and as far as we are concerned it certainly does.  Head Chef Stu Clowes certainly knows his stuff and the taste and quality of his cuisine is not to be missed.

Will we return to dine at the Seabreeze Dining Restaurant?  Yes indeed we will.
